IF anyone had suggested a few years ago that I should present a paper on the clinical use of curare I would have been inclined to laugh, for to most of us curare has always been a fabulous poison vaguely connected with South American Indians and detective novels, useful in the physiological laboratory, but far removed from the realm of practical therapeutics.
